京都のとある閑静な住宅地にある木造住宅です。最小限住宅のように極力小さく作り、敷地を出来る限り庭にしようというコンセプトです。玄関はあるのですが、普段は正面の軒下にある非対称の両開きの窓から出入りします。窓の高さは椅子の高さになっていてベンチのようになっています。ここから入るとまた中でもベンチになっています。この窓の横桟がちょうど椅子の背もたれとして機能していて、窓にもたれかけることができます。左右非対称なのは、窓を開け放つときにちょうど壁にピッタリ収まるようにするためです。窓枠の周囲にはしっかり気密処理がなされています。ガラスはもちろん複層ガラスです。また写真ではわかりにくいのですが、ちゃんと網戸もついていて、この網戸にも背もたれ用に横桟がはいっています。季節が良い時には窓は開けておいて、網戸は閉めておくことが出来ます。網戸は引き戸になっていて、普段は横にある袖壁に収まっていて、蓋を閉めて収納できるようになっています。この窓のあたりがこの家のリビングのようなものであり中心となります。窓の外側の庭には月見台を設けて、ここでもゆったり出来るようになっています。庭には充分な高さの植物を植えているので視界が遮られており周りから覗かれることもありません。住宅地ではあるけれど、別荘のような住宅となりました。This is a wooden house located in a quiet residential neighborhood in Kyoto.The concept was to build the house as compact as possible—almost like a minimum dwelling—while maximizing the area of the site dedicated to the garden.Although the house has a formal entrance, daily access is primarily through an asymmetrical set of double windows located beneath the eaves on the front façade. The window sill is set at chair height and functions like a bench. Upon entering through this opening, the bench continues inside the house. The horizontal mullion of the window aligns perfectly as a backrest, allowing one to lean comfortably against the window.The asymmetrical design allows the windows, when fully opened, to fit neatly against the adjacent wall. The window frames are carefully air-sealed, and the glazing is double-pane for thermal performance. While not easily visible in photographs, insect screens are also installed. These screens include a horizontal rail that functions as a backrest as well. During pleasant seasons, the windows can remain open while the screens are kept closed.The screens are sliding panels that are normally stored within a side wall pocket and can be concealed by closing a cover when not in use. This window area effectively serves as the living room and the central space of the house.Outside the window, a moon-viewing platform (tsukimidai) is set within the garden, offering another place to relax. The garden is planted with vegetation of sufficient height to block views from surrounding properties, ensuring privacy. Although located in a residential area, the house has the atmosphere of a private retreat, much like a vacation home.
